Presidential and National Assembly polls to hold Feb. 16, 2019

Presidential and National Assembly elections

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has announced that the 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold together as stated initially.

According to the Commission’s release the previous year both the Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to hold on Feb. 16. The Gubernatorial, State Assemblies and FCT elections were also scheduled for March 2, 2019.

However, the National Assembly has a contrary stand on the schedule of elections. The house has insisted that the National Assembly polls hold before the Presidential polls. The lawmakers taking a step further to implement this amended the Electoral Act which it has sent to the President for signing into law.

The INEC will continue to plan for the 2019 polls based on its schedule, the Commission’s Chairman stated.
