The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has revealed its intention to commence what they call Mega Drug Distribution Centres (MDDCs).
This was revealed by the Chairman of the body Mr. Ali Bakau while speaking in Illorin on Wednesday.
According to Mr. Bakau, MDDCs will serve as an extension of the community pharmacy that would ensure regulatory practices in sales and distribution of drugs in the country.
The chairman explained that the MDDCs would serve as dedicated wholesale centers at a well-laid out complex. He added that the MDDCs would also be located in the various states capital including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT0, Abuja. This will enable smaller communities to access it, he said.
He further revealed that the Mega Drug Distribution Centres would be made up of wholesalers, patent medicine operators and regulatory agencies such as NAFDAC, NDLEA, the police and others.

The PSN chairman noted that the aim of the scheme is to sanitize the sale, distribution and abuse of drugs in the country.
Mr. Bakau said; “There will be semblance of order in the sale and distribution of drugs rather than the haphazard way existing now.”
