2 million 9 hundred and eighteen thousand, eight hundred and forty-two children, Nineteen thousand schools benefited from Federal Government’s N6.64 billion feeding programme
The Federal Government has yesterday, said it has spent Six billion, six hundred and forty-three million, four hundred and thirty-two thousand, seven hundred and eighty nine Naira for the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme.
It also disclosed that two million, nine hundred and eighteen thousand, eight hundred and forty-two school children from 19,881 schools in the 14 pilot states of the federation were beneficiaries of the programme.
The feeding programme is part of President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s N500 billion Social Investment Programmes, which has targeted to feed 5.5 million school children before the end of 2017.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, stated that with a total of 3,325 schools, Kaduna State has the highest number of schools so far covered under the programme, as well as the highest number of school children of about 835,508 who have been fed.
Followed sequentially by Benue, Zamfara, Bauchi, Taraba, Anambra, Ebonyi, Ogun, Delta and Abia states respectively.
