Many left dead in China’s iron-ore mine explosion

An explosion in an iron-ore mine, Tuesday left eleven people dead and another nine injured in the northeast province of Liaoning, China.

According to reports, twenty-five people are trapped in the mine. Some of the trapped victims were able to contact people outside.

Injured persons have been rushed to hospital and the municipal government of Benxi, where the accident occurred, has dispatched a rescue team, CCTV said.

The incident took place while drilling a mining shaft run by China National Coal Group Co. the broadcaster said.

Deadly mining accidents are common in China due to lack of safety precautions.

Similar occurrences took place in 2016 and 2017 leaving a great number of death victims.
