Glaucoma: Ophthalmologist tasks the public on regular eye screening

The Host of the popular Radio talk on Eye Health, Insight on Sight, Dr Monsurah Salami tasked the public on regular eye screening to ascertain if they have glaucoma or other eye challenges.

While speaking on Monday on the show to commemorate World Glaucoma Week, the consultant ophthalmologist stated that glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that causes progressive irreversible damage to the optic nerve (nerve for sending visual symptoms to our brain), once blind from glaucoma as of today it’s incurable.

It is also the second highest cause of blindness worldwide and has affected about 70 million persons worldwide with 4.5 million blind from glaucoma

It is estimated that about 11 million persons will be blind cause of glaucoma come 2020.
