Osifo expressed, “There are other options to this medication in dealing with their condition. I have endeavoured to meet with the patients; however they have been antagonistic on the grounds that they feel that we are denying them of prescription.

According to Punch Reporter,  Iyawe could not be reached for comments as of 7pm on Tuesday, when filing this story, the Chairman of the sickle cell centre, Mr. Charles Edigin, condemned the decision of the state government, accusing  the government of victimising the doctor for having complained about the poor welfare condition and management of the clinic.

He stated, “We have had issues with the administration over welfare and in the light of that, the Governor  welcomed us to a meeting  at the Government House.

“We were, be that as it may, shocked the Governor began satirizing us and ordered the arrest of Iyawe. Obviously, we opposed the arrest when security (agents) needed to effect  it. The security people later advised Iyawe to go and never step his feet in the sickle cell centre again.”
